FBC, Inc. Awarded System Software Engineering Annex Phase II Contract

Fite Building Co., Inc. has been awarded the contract for the second phase of the System Software Engineering Annex from the Army Corps of Engineers. This project is located at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. FBC, Inc. has just recently completed the first phase.

The total sq. ft. of the SSEA-2 project is in the neighborhood of 83,000. It will include laboratories, a high-bay extension with overhead crane, office support space and engineering workspaces.

Specialty Care Assisted Living Facility

Site work has begun on a new Specialty Care Assisted Living Facility at Redstone Village in Huntsville, AL. It will be a frame, 32 bed complex consisting of about 23,000 sq. ft. Construction is projected to take one year.

FBC, Inc. Receives Celebrate Safety Award

For the second time, FBC, Inc. has won the US Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District Celebrate Safety Award. This award was for the 3rd quarter of 2008 in the large project category. It was received for the safety efforts at the System Software Engineering Annex Phase I project at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. Over 168,532 man hours of work have been performed with no recordable accidents. “Thank You” to on- site Safety Coordinator Winston Fite, Superintendent Jason Claborn, The Corps of Engineers, Sub-Contractors and everyone else for your help and safe work practices.

New Campus for Decatur Heritage Christian Academy

Ground breaking for a new campus for Decatur Heritage Christian Academy has been held. This new facility will be located on Spring Ave. in Decatur, AL. Overall, it will include about 73,410 sq. ft. of space. The campus will included a full size gymnasium, weight room, locker rooms, cafeteria/media center and multiple class rooms. Construction is to start immediately and is scheduled to be completed in August 2009.

FBC, Inc. receives 2008 Gold STEP Award

Fite Building Co., Inc. has received the Gold Level STEP Safety Award from the Association of Builders and Contractors for 2008. FBC, Inc. has received this award every year since 2000. This award recognizes a companies efforts of achievement and it’s efforts in developing a quality safety program. This award could not have been received without the cooperation of all FBC, Inc. employees.

Expansion at National Packaging

A 20,000 sq. ft. warehouse addition to National Packaging in Decatur, AL. is well underway. This will primarily be additional warehouse space. It is scheduled to be completed in about four months.

Alabama Pediatric Dental Associates

A new 10,000 sq. ft. dental office for Alabama Pediatric Dental Associates has broken ground. It will be located at 24 Hughes Road in Madison, AL. This new facility will be one story with stone and brick exterior. It is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2009. Osborn & Associates is the architectural firm.

Bank of Lincoln County Wins Excellence in Construction Award

The Bank of Lincoln County project has won an Excellence in Construction Award for commercial building projects between two and five million dollars. The award was given by the Association of Builders and Contractors, Inc., North Alabama Chapter. Some of the judging criteria included, safety, scope of work, references and project narrative.
The addition and renovation of this bank was a team effort headed by the owner, Fuqua & Partners Architects and FBC, Inc. The total renovated area was about 10,148 sq. ft. on the first floor, 6,048 on the second and 2,988 in the basement. A total of 38,500 man hours were expended on the project with FBC, Inc. self-performing about 25%. Although the bank remained in business during the entire construction process, demolition of most of the existing building was eventually required. This required a high level of daily communication and coordination between the owner, occupants, customers and construction workers. The entrance into the bank was even relocated three times during construction. See pictures of the project in our Portfolio/Commercial/Financial section.

FBC, Inc. Receives Safety Award

For the second quarter in a row, FBC, Inc. was awarded the Superior Safety Award by the Mobile District Construction Division of the Corps of Engineers and Redstone Resident Office. This award recognizes the efforts of FBC, Inc. for it’s ability to maintain a safe work environment at the Systems Software Engineering Annex, Phase I Project. This award was for the 2nd quarter of FY 2008, large category. The FBC, Inc. SSEA team should be proud of their hard work and dedication. Thank You and Thank You to the Corps of Engineers.

Systems Software Engineering Annex update

The Systems Software Engineering Annex project at Redstone Arsenal is continuing at a great pace. Steel is currently being erected as well as underground utilities. APAC and Fite Building Co., Inc. have been awarded safety awards from the Corp. of Engineers for the second and third quarters. We appreciate all the workers and sub-contractors safety efforts at this project.
